Calgary Health Topics

In June of 2004, CTV News reported that a survey by Mercer Human Resource Consulting  deemed Calgary as the healthiest city in the world. The scoring included, air pollution, quality/availability of hospitals and medical supplies, and also the efficiency of waste removal and sewage systems.

 

Another study shows Calgary for 2005 as being in 25th place for best quality of life. This portion of our site will focus on health topics and also health products that are related to Calgary, Alberta.

Getting Care

In Calgary the typical delivery of medical care is provided by :

General practitioners who often run walk-in care facilities (it is currently difficult to get a family doctor)

Walk-in clinics operated by Alberta Health

Emergency rooms maintained by the major hospitals (see list to the right).

 

Urgent Care:
As defined by Alberta Health Services, "Urgent Care Centres are medical facilities for people who have unexpected but not life-threatening health concerns that require same-day treatment. People with life-threatening conditions should go immediately to an Emergency Department or call 911."
