Are we environmental crazy foolish!
This morning there was a news piece on the The Globe & Mail. Apparently Domtar is getting annoyed with "think before you print" messages that are now a common footer on emails. Yes, Domtar wants us to use more of their product. Strange because in spite of it being a digital age, I still find myself drowning in paperwork.
What does this have to do with Coffee? Well last few times I have been at Tim Horton's I see long lineups of cars waiting to go through the drive-thru. Without fail all of them with their engines running. Personally, I very rarely use a drive-thru and prefer to park and go inside. I don't mean to pick on Tim Horton's, because certainly the same situation is played out at other fast food restaurants & banks etc. If you are saying no big deal, think about this scenario being played out at multiple locations in our city, at multiple cities in our province and multiple provinces in our country.
Onto taxes! Listen up Ottawa, here is a chance to slay the deficit and be a global leader! The government wanted to reduce cigarette smoking, answer was to slap them with taxes. Now here is an triple win opportunity. A tax on each drive-thru transaction! It will help the environment, it will reduce the deficit and it will make the lazy think twice about sitting in their idling pollution-mobile!
These are my thoughts and I don't even want credit for them, just a MP to pick up the idea and run with it! Hey you Jason Kenney do you like this idea?
Ok, if Ottawa doesn't go for it, maybe our next mayor Ric McIver (front runner at time of writing this) can implement it on a local basis. We all know how money starved municipal governments are!
