Could there be more to this story? According to Professor HawkinSky, the Banff squirrel population has gone too far this time. They are grabbing the spotlight just because they are cute. It seems the public is not aware of the destructive and evil habits of these "Crasher Squirrels". Professor HawkinSky went on to say "frankly, they should just be swooped down on and eaten for lunch".
We also spoke to the forH club (Friends Of Rodentlike Herbivores). They had a little different take on the situation. Apparently the Crasher squirrel is usually quite camera shy but this was an extraordinary situation. Apparently some park warden had put up a big sign saying "Don't Feed the Wildlife" and amazingly the Crasher Squirrel (his real squirrel name withheld on request) had been depending on contributions from humans as his family had recently significantly expanded to 15. He acted out of desperation, it was a plea for nuts and berries, basically squirrel food that needed to be found before the cold Alberta winter sets in.
Apparently there is currently a movement afoot to set up a trust fund called "ACORN" which will provide food & shelter for homeless and hungry Squirrels.
Do NOT send acorns directly to Banff National Park (Box 900 Banff, AB T1L 1K2 Canada). The rangers like to eat them.
