May 2010 long weekend and booze bans & not so great weather

Well the May 2010 long weekend is upon us and if you are camping, chances are booze has been banned in your campground. How are you going stay warm with the weather we are going to not be enjoying?

Prohibition in the USA was in effect from about 1920 to 1933 and is commonly thought to be a reaction to the temperance movement. After all liquor does lead to depravity, doesn't it?

From the Government of Alberta Tourism website:

"To ensure Alberta's parks are safe and enjoyable places for everyone, temporary liquor bans will be in place at ten provincial parks and recreation areas during the May long weekend.

The ban has been expanded to cover two new locations this year -- Ghost Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area near Cochrane and Jarvis Bay Provincial Park near Sylvan Lake. An increased need for enforcement interventions at both parks resulted in this year's ban.

A temporary liquor ban will be in effect at the following provincial parks and recreation areas from 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 20th until 6:00 pm on Monday, May 24th:

  • Aspen Beach Provincial Park
  • Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park
  • Dillberry Lake Provincial Park
  • Garner Lake Provincial Park
  • Ghost Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area
  • Jarvis Bay Provincial Park
  • Miquelon Lake Provincial Park
  • Pigeon Lake Provincial Park
  • Wabamun Lake Provincial Park
  • Whitney Lakes Provincial Park"

A bluejay in my tree

A bluejay came & (ahem) borrowed one of the peanuts I had left out for the squirrels. Who knew that bluejays liked peanuts!

Dusty the Alberta Squirrel

The weather for the last few weeks has been AWESOME and my friend Dusty the squirrel looks like he agrees!
